AN inquiry into the death of a Brazilian student in a Bracknell pub's car park was opened yesterday.
The coroner and Independent Police Complaints Commission are both investigating the death of Daniel Bruno Neves Vulcao, a 34-year old attending Newbold College, who had been drinking in the Bridge Pub in Wokingham Road before his death on January 19, 2014.
The preliminary hearing for his inquest yesterday heard four police officers and two special constables were called to the pub after Mr Vulcao, who was asked to leave by the landlady, is believed to have passed out.
He was removed from the pub and arrested before paramedics were called and is understood to have died in the ambulance in the pub's car park after suffering a cardiac arrest.
The IPCC's inquiry will discuss whether anything could have been done to prevent Mr Vulcao's death. His family, all of whom live in Brazil, are currently deciding whether they want to be represented.
His sister, the only relative who can speak English, is in contact with Berkshire coroner Peter Bedford.
More than 20 witnesses may be called to the full inquest, which could go on for nearly two weeks. It is expected to take place in Spring next year.
