COUNCIL couriers will travel green on future jobs after a second electric vehicle joined Bracknell Forest's fleet of cars.
The Nissan e-NV200 is 100 per cent emission free and has a range of 100 miles when fully charged, ideal for council couriers who often travel between 65 and 70 miles a day.
It is the second electric car bought by the council in hopes of making long-term savings.
Prices for an e-NV200 start at around £13,500.
Cllr Peter Heydon, executive member for transformation and finance, said: "We are glad to support this initiative which will help reduce our yearly costs and create whole year savings for the council. The other great thing, like our electric car, is that they are made entirely in the UK."
Electric charging points have been installed at the council’s Time Square and Commercial Centre buildings to ensure the vehicle is always fully operational.
The van will be kinder to the environment and to council budgets, saving £1,000 a year in diesel.
Cllr Mrs Dorothy Hayes, executive member for the environment, said: “This is a fantastic scheme, not only is it saving costs but it is also environmentally friendly, which shows our commitment to the environment and helps us to reduce our carbon footprint.”
The council is reviewing if more electric vehicles can be introduced to save costs and reduce carbon emissions.
