A famous burger restaurants cancelled plans to open in Bracknell have been met with a mixed reaction.

On Thursday, October 5, Wimpy announced that three years after it announced the chain was to come to The Lexicon, plans have been cancelled.

A Wimpy spokesperson said: “We are very disappointed that discussions between ourselves and a prospective franchisee, who was the leaseholder for the premises, have ended without agreement. This means we are unable to proceed further at this location."

Having first announced the store in 2020, Wimpy had announced multiple delays and problems with finding a suitable franchisee.

Upon hearing the news, Luke Stevens said: "I’m surprised it took them this long to say that, other shops have been announced, built and opened before this one even got put together."

Rob Francis added: "This is becoming hilarious. I wonder how much money was wasted leasing the unit.

"As recently as August I saw builders in there putting up plasterboard walls and say it would be open within September or October.

"I wonder what the point of that was? The sooner whoever owns the unit sells it on or gets someone into this absolutely wasted prime spot the better."

Meanwhile, Anneliese Browning said "I find this so upsetting," and George Froud added "Well I never... We never saw that coming."

This week The Lexicon also announced that its longtime project known as The Deck has also been cancelled.

"Wimpy the Deck what next," Becky Hobson said.

Another resident added: "No great loss or surprise. Have enough food places anyway and I didn’t even want it.

"Should never have been allowed to advertise as coming soon for years though."

While Phil Meredith added that Wimpy looked "Out of place."

With the unit expected to open up to new businesses in the near future, locals have also shared their hopes for the unit.

Kirsty Jade Mulcahy said: "Why don’t they create nicer places to go to or be in - not just bad restaurants?

"There’s still no places in Bracknell for kids to go in and play. What about a new soft play or click and climb."

Jaspreet Singh added: "We need a nightclub in the deck area and an actual small supermarket in Wimpy."

"Make it a pop-up Xmas shop - maybe calendars or decorations," said Ian Clarke.
