JACKSON Derek Derek Jackson died peacefully at the Royal Berkshire Hospital Reading in the evening of 28th September aged 82. Derek will be greatly missed by his brother Michael and family, also those in the scouting world, in the village of Hurst and in the U3A where his friendship and committee work was much appreciated. There will be a private cremation followed by a Thanksgiving Service at St Nicholas Church, Hurst at 1pm on Tuesday 20th October. Sign in to add a tributeDerek had such a massive influence within the Scout Association for young scout and guide musicians, having been the National Adviser for bands and Orchestra for many many years he was responsible for numerous events, bringing music to high profile occasions and staging concerts and competitions across the UK.
I had the privilege of working with Derek on a number of these events and enjoyed his company socially also, happy memories of meeting at Kudu Lodge and within the KLA.
