WINTERY conditions have forced the cancellation of a half-marathon for only the second time in its 28 years.
Wokingham Half-Marathon, which is traditionally held in February as the perfect preparation for the London Marathon, has been cancelled due to the adverse weather conditions making the course unsafe.
Peter Evans, chairman of the Wokingham Half Marathon Committee, said: "It's the great non-event. We have had to cancel the half marathon because the outlook for Sunday means that it would be too dangerous for the runners to run around." The committee is meeting on Monday to discuss the feasibility of rescheduling the race for later in the year, however this may not be possible.
Mr Evans added: "It's not cast in stone that it will be held later on because the trouble is that when you get into the nicer weather you begin to clash with other events."
