THE winners of the Pride of Bracknell Awards, held at Bracknell and Wokingham College on April 26, were as follows: Adult VolunteerYoung Volunteer Winner: Paige Chamberlain (helps out at The Zone youth club in Great Hollands) Voluntary Group of the Year Winner: Bracknell CAB Runner-up: Konnections (group for disabled children and their families, based at the Kerith Centre in Bracknell) Sports Champion (adult category) Winner: Don Werner (long-time volunteer judo coach at Pinewood Club) Runners-up: Dave Allen (who organised 20 runs for the charity SANDS in memory of his baby daughter) and Amanda Parker (national and international trampolinist) Young Sports Champion Winner: Lucie Bouron (aged 17, disabled athlete who is a national table tennis and basketball player) Runner-up: Tia Ruel (aged 15, disabled athlete who is a rising boccia star) Education Champion Winner: Gemah Allen (dance teacher at Artemis Studios, Bracknell) Runner-up: Chris Harris (chairman of governors at St Michael's Primary, Sandhurst, for the past 25 years) Retail Hero Winner: Graham Oakley (general manager at Waitrose store, Bracknell) Runner-up: Helen Biggs (from Body Shop, Bracknell) Good Citizen Winner: Jessie Ritchie (aged 93, has taken children with special needs to school for the past 42 years) Runner-up: Michael Titheridge (helpful concierge at Ocean House, Bracknell) My Hero Winner: Carol Clayton (foster carer for 25 years) Runner-up: Wally Harris MM (who is ever-cheerful and an inspiration, despite having cancer and being a carer for his ill wife).
Child of Courage Winner: Jamie Turvey (four-year-old who has had a number of serious illnesses in his short life)
