READERS are putting forward their deserving heroes to win a Pride of Bracknell Award with nominations starting to come forward.
The awards celebrate the kind-natured and unsung work carried out by residents, with the champions honoured at a gala dinner at Bracknell & Wokingham College in April.
Worthy winners last year included Bracknell Citizens’ Advice Bureau, which was named Voluntary Group.
Chairman of trustees Brian Fries collected the award on behalf of the group and described it as “a great tribute to our team of volunteers”.
The charity helps about 3,000 clients every year and the 60-strong team of volunteers offers a quality service to residents in need for free.
Now in their ninth year, the Pride of Bracknell Awards are organised by the News, Bracknell Regeneration Partnership and other supporters.
Nominations are open until Friday, March 28, and can be made across a variety of categories including voluntary,, sport, business and education.
Once all nominations are received, a shortlist will be drawn up by judges and the finalists will be invited to the Awards dinner – on Friday, April 25 – along with a guest.
Entertainment is set to be provided by college students, who have proved a hit with guests in recent years.
