NOMINATIONS for this year’s Pride of Bracknell are pouring in – but there is not long left for readers to give their heroes a chance of being a champion.

The annual awards ceremony – which is now in its ninth year – highlights the wonderful work done by volunteers and residents around the town.

Among those who have been nominated is Nigel Dumbrell, who has been hailed for his work in keeping the community clean.

He has been nominated for his contribution by Robert Moore, from Bucklebury, Hanworth, He said: “Nigel is the driving force behind getting graffitti removed in the Forest Park area.

“He gets the local community and businesses involved and is an active member of his local action group.

“Well done Nigel!” Mr Dumbrell is vice chairman of Harmans Water & The Parks, Martin’s Heron & The Warren Neighbourhood Action Group. Another person who has received a nomination is Alison Stratford, welfare officer at Bracknell and Wokingham Districts branch of Cats Protection.

Alison was nominated by colleague Lynne Pothecary after rescuing a stray cat from the former 3M building last month. Lynne said: I think after all the work she does for us anyway, and then braving going into that building, parts of which were in complete darkness with her torch is definitely over and above the call of duty.” The Pride of Bracknell Awards are organised by the News, in conjunction with Bracknell Regeneration partnership and other generous sponsors.

Readers can recommend their heroes for a prize across a range of categories – including voluntary work, sport, business and education.

The closing date for nominations for this year’s awards is little more than a fortnight away, on Friday March 28.

After the deadline closes, judges will shortlist finalists, who will then be invited with a guest to the gala dinner at Bracknell and Wokingham College on Friday, April 25.
