THERE are just over three weeks left to enter your nomination for this year's Pride of Bracknell Forest Awards, an annual ceremony celebrating the great and good in the borough.

Anyone can be nominated for an award, from sports stars and charities to top businesses and volunteers who go the extra mile to help out those in need - all we need is for you, our readers, to nominate them.

There are ten categories in the awards with the top two reserved for that special someone who has excelled in their field or has shown incredible bravery in the face of illness, the Pride of Bracknell Adults' Award and the Pride of Bracknell Children's Award, renamed from last year's Child of Courage category.

Last year's Child of Courage was Liam Stevens who was nominated for his bravery and good humour in the face of a debilitating brain tumour.

After winning the award 13-year-old Liam said it had been a nervous wait while mum Mandy Sharpe said it had been a 'tear-filled' night for her at the awards ceremony in Bracknell and Wokingham College.

In the adult category, last year's winner was the inspirational Pat Kennewell for her campaign to turn an old tree stump into a vibrant piece of artwork as well as a new play area for youngsters.

She said it was a complete shock to win the award, but thanked those who had taken the time to fill in a nomination for her.

This year the awards want to recognise even more people and Bracknell News reporter Louise Hill said: "We're hoping for a lot more entries to come through over the next few weeks. There's a real buzz when a new nomination comes in the post or drops into our emails and it's so lovely to read about all the great people there are in the borough.

"Your favourite teacher or someone who dedicates their time to helping others, or even the best business in town, can be nominated for an award. As long as you think they deserve a bit of recognition for all the work they do, they are a perfect person to nominate."
