THE REGENERATION of the former Bentalls store site will not include a night club.
Bracknell Regeneration Partnership has confirmed that the site will become an open air area connecting the Lexicon to the Princess Square.
As part of the new plans for the site, there was a planning application for a unit to have night club usage, however this is now no longer part of the scheme.
Simon Russian, development manager for Legal & General on behalf of Bracknell Regeneration Partnership, says: “Although planning permission exists within The Deck for a night club, amongst other leisure uses, it is not currently part of the redevelopment plan.
“The area including the former Bentalls store has planning permission for redevelopment into a vibrant food and leisure quarter, called The Deck.
"We are also in discussion with a number of retailers, leisure operators and community users regarding units in Princess Square.”
Later this year Bentalls will relocate to The Lexicon Shopping Centre, where it will reopen as Fenwick.
Next year the lease on the McDonald's unit will expire when it will be redeveloped, while the facade of Ocean House, the 13-storey office block above the former Bentalls store, will remain in place.
At 10am on September 7 the long awaited town centre development will be unveiled.
Pupils from across the town will countdown to the opening which will be marked with a fanfare of green, gold and silver streamers and leaf shaped confetti, cascading across The Lexicon’s walkways and squares.
Following this visual extravaganza, The Lexicon will spring to life, with retailers and restaurants opening their doors for the very first time.
Mr Russian added: “The Lexicon is a town for the future, and we wanted to make the local future, the children, the focus of the launch. We hope that everyone will join us over the weekend to embrace the new town centre as something we can all be proud of.”
