THE MANAGEMENT of an after school club has been criticised by the education watchdog for not being ‘fully effective.’ Energy Kidz Out of School Club- Hawthorns was inspected by Ofsted on March 5 and was given a “requires improvement” rating.
Ofsted were critical about the staff’s interaction with the children which was deemed to be ‘not consistently good’ and that the staff were missing opportunities to help children to think and explore.
The children ‘do not always understand their boundaries’ and Ofsted said that the staff have not efficiently helped the students to develop a good awareness of how to keep themselves safe.
However, the staff have ‘very good relationships’ with the parents.
The same can be said about the staff’s contact with schools – and the club regularly and efficiently shares information with the teachers about their progress.
Children also seem to enjoy being at the after school club and there are enough resources available to the children to fully explore and investigate.
The club uses Woosehill Community Church on Chestnut Avenue as the base for their work.
Energy Kidz has a large number of clubs around the country and the director says he is proud of the Ofsted ratings across the board.
Energy Kidz director Andrew Norton, said: “Energy Kidz has 84 Ofsted registrations, working across 15 counties from our head office in Wokingham. We had 24 ‘Good’ or ‘Outstanding’ Ofsted results in 2017. We are extremely proud of our Ofsted record.”
He said a plan for improvement is in place.
“On 5 March 2018, we had two inspections on the same day in Wokingham Borough.
“We are pleased with the ‘Good’ at Winnersh Primary School and have put a plan in place for our Woosehill club to ensure we get a ‘Good’ or ‘Outstanding’ at the next inspection.”
