A CBEEBIES star has read a special story for the children of a local charity.
Chris Jarvis, who is well-known on children's television for fronting Discover and Do and the Bedtime Hour on CBeebies, recorded a special reading of The Gruffalo, by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler, for the children of Dingley's Promise, a Berkshire-based charity which supports very young children with disabilities and additional needs.
The reading formed part of the charity's 35 stories campaign as it celebrates its 35th anniversary this year.
Chief Executive, Catherine McLeod MBE said “We were thrilled when Chris agreed to read a story for us, and knew we were in for a treat when he confirmed he would read The Gruffalo. The children were mesmerised as he brought to life one of their favourite stories – not to mention staff and parents, who loved it too.
"Our sincere thanks goes to Macmillan Publishers International Ltd for granting us the rights for publication of this story being read by Chris Jarivs. They have been incredibly supportive of our work, donating a bundle of books for each of our centres.
"Books are powerful in supporting children to learn the world around us. They take us on journeys into news world, opening up our imaginations. We are thankful for this support to aid children’s development, whilst supporting our 35 stories for 35 years’ campaign."
