RECYCLING is set to become even easier thanks to the launch of a new mobile app.
Residents in Bracknell Forest and Wokingham Borough are being encouraged to download a new app being launched by re3, which will aim to help them recycle more than ever before.
The free app, called re3cyclopedia has been developed to help residents of Bracknell Forest, Reading and Wokingham Boroughs to recycle as much and as easily as possible, by showing what, how and where to recycle different items.
By using the new app, residents can search for any household items to find out exactly what can or can’t be recycled at the kerbside or at the recycling centres; what items can be composted at home or find out location of the nearest bottle or textile bank.
The app will also allow residents to quickly check date of the next bin collection, help to renew garden waste collection scheme or ease application for a commercial vehicle permit to access re3 recycling centres.
In a Joint Statement, Cllr Mrs Dorothy Hayes MBE, executive member for environment and chairman of the joint waste disposal board, Cllr Sophia James, Reading Borough Council’s lead councillor for neighbourhoods & communities and Cllr Norman Jorgensen, Wokingham Borough Council’s executive member for environment, said: “Residents of Bracknell Forest, Reading and Wokingham Boroughs are good at recycling. Following our service improvement at the beginning of this year, we can recycle plastic pots, tubs and trays.
"The next step is to make sure we get our recycling right. re3 analysis shows that around 10 per cent of our rubbish is still items which could be recycled in our mixed recycling containers. Meanwhile one in five items we put in the recycling containers should be binned as they currently cannot be recycled or are problematic in the recycling process.
"We want to help residents to understand recycling a bit better and ask to go above and beyond to recycle more and waste less. We encourage residents to download re3cyclopedia and follow its guidelines so each of us can do recycling a little bit better than ever before.”
The app is available to download now from the App Store or Google Play Store.
