STUDENTS from two schools in Woodley were invited onto the Bulmershe Leisure Centre building site to celebrate the formation of the centre as a steel frame is put up.
Wokingham Borough Council is building the new £14 million leisure centre in Woodley, which will be on the site of the former one.
Students from The Bulmershe School and Addington School were given the opportunity to go onto the site and see the new frame.
The new leisure centre will have a six-lane 25 metre swimming pool, a teaching pool with a movable floor, a bigger gym, a four-court sports hall and an additional studio as well as a café.
Councillor John Halsall, executive member for environment, leisure and libraries, said: “This is always the exciting point in a project like this because this is when you start to see it take shape.
“With the steel frame now going up you will see a lot of changes quickly on the site. As well as the frame, which should be up by this summer, we’ve also started on the new pool.”
The new centre is due to open next summer and will be run by Places Leisure.
