VOLUNTEERS at the Rotary Club of Easthampstead helped raise large amounts of money for a very worthy cause.
Shoppers at Tesco in Warfield and Morrisons in Woosehill, Wokingham donated money to the rotary club's Cyclone Idai appeal on Friday, April 5.
The Rotary Club of Easthampstead collected more than £1,000 in total from the two stores, which will help families in South Africa who were affected by the storm in March.
The cyclone which hit Southern Africa, killed more than 600 people and destroyed thousands of homes across Mozambique, Malawi and Zimbabwe.
Around two and a half million people have been affected by Cyclone Idai.
Team members of the rotary club set up their stalls at the two supermarkets to collect money and raise awareness of the storm.
In total, £740 was collected at Tesco, Warfield in Bracknell and on Mother's Day, shoppers at Morrisons donated £613.
A spokesman for the Rotary Club of Easthampstead, said: "While we have been basking in unexpected early spring sunshine, two weeks ago Cyclone Idai struck Southern Africa.
"The generous shoppers in Bracknell and Wokingham responded magnificently to the appeal mounted by Rotarians last weekend.
"This great response by our shoppers at Tesco Warfield and Morrisons Woosehill was only made possible by the management and staff of both stores who reacted so fast. Our thanks to them."
