A POST mortem examination has revealed the cause of death of a man who died following a disagreement where he was punched and then fell to the floor hitting his head.
The examination, which took place on Sunday, April 14 has concluded that the cause of death was blunt force trauma to the head.
The incident happened at about 11.30pm on Friday, April 12, officers were called to Friar Street in Reading, near Matchbox nightclub, after a report of a disagreement between two men.
Officers attended the scene with the ambulance service where a 48-year-old man had been punched and had then fallen to the floor, hitting his head.
He was taken to hospital for treatment but died after arriving.
The two men are believed to have known each other.
His next of kin are being supported by specially trained officers, he is yet to be formally identified.
The incident was initially investigated as a murder but police confirmed it has now been classified as a manslaughter investigation.

Senior investigating officer, Detective Inspector Sally Spencer, of Thames Valley Police’s Major Crime Unit, said: “This incident was initially investigated as a murder investigation, however having now conducted a number of enquiries this case has now been classified as a manslaughter investigation.
“I understand that this incident will cause concern to local residents, but I want to reassure the community that this was an isolated incident between two people who were known to each other.
“I want to take this opportunity to appeal to any witnesses or anyone with information to please come forward. The town was busy on Friday night so I am sure there are some people who are witnesses but were perhaps unaware of the seriousness of the situation.”
An 18-year-old man from Crowthorne was arrested on suspicion of murder. He has now been released on bail until May 10.
Police are urging anyone with information to contact them on 101.
