GIRLS from a school in Ascot have been given awards after setting up and running their own companies across the academic year.
The students from St George’s school have been awarded the Young Enterprise Company of the Year, Best Company Report and Best Customer Service at the Bracknell, Wokingham and Ascot area final.
The event was held at Easthampstead Park Conference Centre and celebrated the achievements of pupils from across the area who have set up and run a company as part of the Young Enterprise Company Programme, which is sponsored by HSBC.
Six companies from a range of schools competed in the categories, including presentation, customer service, sustainability and company report, with an award for each category.
Products marketed included jewellery made from sustainably sourced materials, healthy recipe cards, adhesive mobile phone credit card holders and sustainable tote bags.
St George’s company, Cosmo, who sold laptop cases, came away with the award for Company of the Year after the judges were particularly impressed with their teamwork.
Cosmo board of directors said: “The Young Enterprise experience has been a massive learning curve, and something we will always be proud to have done.
“We never imagined getting this far and are looking forward to competing in the Berkshire County final.”
The company also landed the award for Best Presentation, while other companies from St George’s received the Best Company Report and Best Customer Service shields.
Cosmo will now go on to represent the Bracknell, Wokingham and Ascot Area at the Young Enterprise Berkshire County Final in Reading on Tuesday, May 14.
