A SCHOOL in Wokingham has been given funding by a housing developer to help them install new play equipment for pupils, after it became unsafe to use.
David Wilson Homes Southern has given Emmbrook Junior School the funding following the launch of the developer’s Community Fund scheme, in which the housebuilder gives up to £1,000 a month to charities and organisations in the borough.
Philip Theobald, assistant headteacher at Emmbrook Junior School, said: “It was such an amazing surprise to receive this incredibly generous donation from David Wilson Homes. It will help in such a significant way to the development of our school playground, allowing our children to enjoy our outdoor area even more.
“Our School Council, made up of children from every year group, have been working hard this year to develop key areas of the school and one of those was the school playground, so it is fantastic that David Wilson Homes was able to help us with this project.”

The school was in the process of trying to raise money to replace the children’s outside play equipment after it becoming unsafe to use.
The funds will go towards having the old play area removed and putting a new one in place.
Paul Crispin, managing director at David Wilson Homes Southern, added: “We’re delighted to have been able to support Emmbrook Junior School through the Community Fund scheme and wish them all the best with the installation of their new play area.
“In this day and age it is highly important that young children are encouraged to go outside and play so we were delighted to get onboard with the project to revamp the old play area at the school.
“As the country’s largest housebuilder we are committed to creating a positive legacy. We want to lead the industry not just in the quality of the homes and developments we build, but also in our work with charities and good causes throughout the UK.”
