FOUR-legged friends visited elderly residents as part of a new animal therapy scheme helping to create a positive atmosphere.
Larkland House in Ascot were greeted by ducklings and goats last week by mobile farm, Basil and Crew to help elderly people with their mental health.
Maggie Candy, home manager, said: "Being close to animals can help lift a person’s mood, stimulate social interaction and ease agitation."
During the therapy session, residents were presented with facts on each of the animals and were able to cuddle them.
The initiative has so far proved to be very successful, with residents feeling positive - especially those suffering with dementia.
A couple of months ago, the residents cuddled a variety of animals including guinea pigs and dogs.
Maggie Candy, home manager, said: "As part of our activity-based care approach, we are always looking to plan exciting activities for residents.
"Our birdwatch activity earlier this year proved that residents had a keen interest in nature and wildlife, so we decided to invite Basil and Crew along to provide animal therapy sessions for the residents.
“It proved to be a real success, and the results so far are beyond our expectations.
"You could see from residents’ reactions just how engaged and fascinated they were by the chance to get so close to such a variety of furry friends.”
