A DESPERATE need for volunteers to come forward has been announced by a charity who say their services are being "put under threat".
TRIPLE A, a local voluntary organisation which provides services to help carers and patients with dementia across Bracknell and Ascot are urging residents to sign up and become volunteers.
So far, the organisation has 36 volunteers but needs more to help keep vital services running.
Pam Woodrow, a volunteer at Triple A, said: "A year ago, the loss of a volunteer meant the loss of a monthly Sunday lunch club for dementia sufferers.
"This had given carers the opportunity to have their Sunday lunch with family or friends without the burden of care duties.
"Triple A does not want other services they offer to end similarly, due to a lack of volunteers."
Figures from Alzheimer's Research show dementia affects one in 79 of the whole UK population.
For nearly 25 years the charity has offered its support to local families and it noticed a gap in there not being enough support to people with dementia and none for their carers.
Since it started, the charity has taken dementia sufferers out to enjoy activities and provides a monthly luncheon.
An annual summer picnic and Christmas lunch is also provided for carers to socialise and have fun.
