BABIES and toddlers will get to have fun making music after a crowdfunding appeal was set up to bring free sessions to the community.

Berkshire Maestros is launching Mini Maestros for 300 early-years to experience music across several areas in the county.

They include free sessions to be held in Emmer Green, Arborfield, Crowthorne, Ascot, lambourn and Woolhampton in West Berkshire

The music education charity is aiming to fundraise £17,000 from residents and local businesses to help deliver free baby and toddler music lessons from January to March 2020.

Dawn Wren, Chief executive of Berkshire Maestros, said: "This is one of the biggest and most ambitious projects that Berkshire Maestros has undertaken in recent years but one which is significant to parents and their children within the community."

The sessions will take place in ten different venues, hoping to engage as many families and babies in the delight that music can bring to young children.

Parents can take their little-ones to either Arborfield Green Community Centre, The Morgan Centre in Crowthorne and South Ascot, All Souls Church.

So far, the charity has raised £13,180 and has received pledges from over 70 individuals, £9,000 from Arts Council England as part of the 'Our Music Crowd' movement and contributions from local IT firm, Newbury and Windsor music centre parents and Friends Associations and Barnes Coaches.

Sam Wyne, from Berkshire Maestros said: “We know how good playing an instrument is for people’s wellbeing. So many children enjoy learning an instrument when they are young and continue their hobby in their adult years.

“What we want to do is get younger children involved with music at an earlier age, and inspire in them and their parents to pick up an instrument.”

“If we don’t reach it, sadly none of the sessions will be able to go ahead.”

"We’re hoping to bring the music to local families, by running the sessions in village halls, church halls and community buildings.”
