EXCITED crowds gathered to watch the anticipated countdown of the Christmas lights switch-on with a spectacular fireworks display and entertainment.
The 10 metres tall Christmas tree lights lit up Union Square in The Lexicon yesterday (November 24) by Wish, Elva and Scribble the magical Lapland UK elves.
Pre-school children from Garth Under 5's Nursery helped the elves turn on the Christmas lights with a special Christmas wish chant.

After this, X-factor 2017 winners Rak-Su took to the stage and got people singing and dancing to their upbeat smash hits.
Sue Boor, head of marketing at The Lexicon, said: “This year’s Christmas event drew record crowds throughout the town centre, with thousands of customers filling Bond Square to watch the main acts and firework show.”
Shoppers also stopped to have a dance to Boogie Storm, who were Britain's Got Talent 2016 finalists.
