MORE than two dozen new homes could go up at a disused sports site owned by Bracknell-based technology company 3M.
Land between Turnpike Road and Cain Road would see 29 new homes built on it if applicants get planning permission.

3M has had its headquarters based in Bracknell since 1978 and since 2004 its base has been the 3M centre on Cain Road.
Three tennis courts and a pavilion building currently take up the site next to the 3m building.
However, these facilties are said to be “disused” and “in a state of disrepair” according to developers.
Nineteen of the new homes would be three-bedroom houses, with eight being two-bedroom homes and two being four-bedroom spaces, but these proposals are subject to change.
Buildings could be up to 2.5 storeys high and designers point out this would be “slightly taller” than other homes nearby, but architects say this would be an “appropriate” development.

A planning statement suggests 20 per cent of the new homes at the site could be made affordable, which could include rented and shared ownership homes.
The new homes would be accessed from Turnpike Road.
Developers say they will reveal how many car parking spaces are planned for the houses at a later stage.
Trees at the site which are protected by BFC planning rules would be retained as part of the development.
Developers wrote to BFC bosses: “The proposed development will deliver a range of economic, social and environmental benefits, which include the provision of up to 29 much needed new market and affordable homes, which will make a meaningful contribution to the council’s housing needs.”

Sport England was asked to comment on the plans against its own playing fields policy but the body claims “insufficient information” has been submitted by applicants.
Bracknell Forest Council planning bosses are currently considering the proposal.
