HOUSING chiefs are hoping to build 1,000 council homes in Wokingham borough over the next four years.
Bosses are aiming to make a “vast majority” of these affordable and social housing.

Councillor John Halsall, leader of Wokingham Borough Council leader, told the News: “I think for the borough we need a mix of affordable council houses, shared equity and full equity houses.
“Anything which works and gives people the homes that they want in a way that we can manage it sensibly.
“My job is to keep my residents safe, secure and happy. If I can achieve those objectives then I have done well.
“A real cornerstone of that is people having homes to live in in which they are happy to do so.”

A restructuring of WBC’s housing companies means directors are now made up from across political parties.
The commitment to create 1,000 new council homes is one of the priorities outlined by directors.
This comes after Mayor Bill Soane unveiled eleven new social homes in Hurst in November – the first housing of its kind to be opened in the borough in more than 20 years.
