William Mitchell Mural future decided by Bracknell Forest planning

The William Mitchell mural, which sat above Mothercare at Charles Square, was taken down when the development of The Lexicon got underway.

Last month the News revealed plans to re-install the artwork and now Bracknell Forest planning chiefs have said yes to relocation proposals.

William Mitchell Mural (planning reference 20/00013/3)

Now planners have said yes, the mural will be installed on the east side of Braccan Walk Car Park.

Before the proposal was approved, Cllr Marc Brunel-Walker told the News: “Unfortunately, due to the size of the mural and space constraints within The Lexicon, it simply isn’t possible to relocate it back into the main town centre.

“However, we know this piece of art is remembered fondly by many residents and we hope they will be excited to see it finally placed back within the borough in a prominent position.”

The 30-metre mural was commissioned in 1974 to commemorate the 25th anniversary of Bracknell becoming a new town.

New loos in Winkfield Row (19/01125/FUL)

The King George V recreation ground will be getting two new public toilets.

This comes after Bracknell Forest Council (BFC) gave planning permission to Winkfield Parish Council.

Designs show a small hut with two lavatories will be created.

KFC gets eco-friendly (19/01070/FUL)

Fried chicken from the Bagshot Road restaurant will come with an eco-friendly addition now.

This is because BFC gave KFC permission to add two rapid electric vehicle charging stations to their Bracknell site.

BFC (not Bracknell Fried Chicken) gave the all-clear after considering the development of the new bays from old, regular parking bays.

Changes at Easthampstead Park (19/01078/LB)

Minor changes to the former conference centre were submitted to BFC, including alterations to the stepped access, ramp, traffic island and fountain.

But because the building is protected by special planning considerations, council bosses have to give the all-clear to modifications first.

BFC has said yes to these changes, which “aim to improve the entrance to Easthampstead Park by using a more traditional form of street furniture and materials”, according to a report.

Extension at Lambrook School (19/00923/FUL)

Last but not least, BFC has given permission to Lambrook School to extend its dining room.

The independent establishment is located along the Chavey Down Road in Winkfield Row.

More than 700 pupils and staff now learn or work at the school, and bosses say they “the need for the enlargement of this critical area at the heart of the school.”
