The grandfather-of-five received a screening test kit from the National Health Service (NHS) in the post when he turned 65 in 2018, which came back negative.

However, he had a second screening test in November 2019 after the NHS sent another test kit to him.

This time, a blood sample was detected and Mr Baldry was sent for a colonoscopy where he was told he had cancer.

He said: "I felt very scared especially as I got cancer a second time. Two polyps were found, one of which was cancerous. I had a CT scan to check that it hadn't spread, which it hadn't.

"The doctors said it was lucky that I got it tested when I did."

The patient has praised the screening programme for "undoubtedly" saving his life and is encouraging other men to use the test kit.

The 66-year-old added: "Everyone needs to take advantage of the NHS screening because if you don't, it might be too late.

"Unfortunately, not enough people use it and it's to do with male pride.

"I cant thank the NHS and all associated with it enough. My advice to all, male and female is if you are sent a screening, or offered use it."
