A NEW craft beer and coffee shop could be coming to Crowthorne.

A ‘husband and wife team’ want to open up ‘The Hive’ at the former 'Wonky Donkey' site on Dukes Ride in Crowthorne, roughly 400 yards away from Crowthorne train station.

The new bar would offer small-batch craft beer, spirits and artisan coffee in a “relaxed atmosphere”.

The Hive’s taproom would hold six kegs from independent breweries across the country as well from some of the “amazing local breweries” around Berkshire.

Occasional evening and seasonal social events are planned, including gin making, food pairings and tap takeovers.

Artisan coffee would be available to takeaway or drink-in, as are cakes and pastries.

A lunch menu could become a reality sometime after the shop opens, should applicants get planning permission.

A statement from the owners read: “Our ethos is to source locally and be environmentally friendly whilst showcasing the best of the UK’s independent craft drinks suppliers.

“As a local husband and wife team, we believe that our business idea will create a welcoming, unique place for the residents (and their dogs) of Crowthorne and add to the community feel in the area.

Bracknell News:

“Having spent all our lives in the area we have seen many shops, pubs, restaurants close and see our blend of coffee shop and taproom as a perfect space for people looking for something different.”

Shop managers want to open from 7.30am to 5.30pm Tuesday to Wednesday and 7.30am to 9pm Thursday to Saturday.

The plan, which has been sent to Bracknell Forest Council and is currently being considered, has received a number of comments from neighbours.

“The village is poorly served by pubs and bars, and a small microbrewery/taproom such as this would be a great asset to the community - particularly being at the station end of the village.

“Our community is crying out for this kind of facility and I would implore the planning group to please approve it!”
