THOUSANDS of pounds worth of food was donated to help feed people during the coronavirus crisis.

Ascot Racecourse donated £3,000 worth of essential items to Slough Foodbank and a further £3,000 cash donation was made to help the charity.

A team of generous volunteers helped deliver long-life fruit juice, sponge puddings, tinned fruit, tinned meat, tinned spaghetti, vegetables and more.

The racecourse has also made efforts to donate to a number of good causes across Berkshire.

A spokesman at Ascot Racecourse said: "During the COVID-19 crisis, Ascot Racecourse is doing its part in supporting its local community, charities and importantly the NHS - all of whom are facing unprecedented challenges during these difficult times."

Dingley’s Promise Charity received £1,000 to help with their efforts with vulnerable children.

Ascot Racecourse will also be donating £1,000 to the Thames Hospice and £2,000 to the First Days Charity, who were on the 10 o-clock news explaining that they are one of many smaller charities in danger of folding without funding.

Slough Foodbank also received a range of household items such as soap, shower gel, deodorants, toothpaste and shampoo.

The big screens at the racecourse will be displaying messages of thanks to the NHS and key workers.

There will also be an NHS testing centre at their site medical centre to help ease pressure from the NHS.
