FROM Bentalls, Woolworths to Iceland, we've had a fair share of shops in town but what do readers miss the most?

Bracknell shoppers will have remembered walking through Broadway and the iconic Bandstand as well as trawling through much-loved shops like Bentalls and even Iceland.

But a new and modern town was needed to freshen up the place and in 2012, councillors approved plans for The Lexicon.

The News wanted to ask their readers what they missed most about the town and Bentalls was a number one answer.

A lot of people miss the bandstand, the fountain and the 'Old Highstreet' for its 'diverse range of shops'.

Dave Start said: "I miss the Old High Street. There was probably a more diverse range of shops in the '50' s than the whole town now . Although my Mum made my Dad drive to Camberley in the old banger to shop in the pre supermarket Sainsburys there as it reminded her of shopping in Edmonton Green where we moved from."

Yvonne James said: "I worked in an office in the Broadway early sixties, there were lots of various shops. My work mate and I used to go to the deli for our lunch and eat it near the band stand."

The market in Bracknell town was seen as a particular highlight for the community. Jacquie Loveridge commented: "The proper market, love a good market. Moved here 25 years ago and the market then was great."

Shops such as Iceland, Burger King and even Woolworths were missed among residents, although Fenwick now replaces Bentalls as a department store.
