A KEY worker and Bracknell student has shared what it's like to work in his local supermarket during the coronavirus lockdown.

Otavio Paim, 19, a student at Bracknell and Wokingham College, is doing his bit for the community by working at Tesco and shopping for a vulnerable resident who is self-isolating.

The worker who is originally from Brazil currently works for Tesco in Wokingham and shares what it is like to support people during the crisis, while taking on additional shifts to support the increase in demand.

Otavio said: “I really like working there, I like my managers and my colleagues. They make me feel confident about working here, especially during the outbreak.

“I’m learning to obey social distancing, how to check dates clean the shelves and arrange the products so that they look good to customers.

“Learning from home is going really well too. I can be more focused and email teachers when I have any questions.

“I feel really good and happy that I am able to help.”

Belinda West, ESOL lecturer at Activate Learning, said: "Otavio has been keeping in touch with me extremely well at this difficult time.

“He has also worked long hours at Tesco and has helped a vulnerable neighbour by doing her shopping.

“It is vital support for his neighbour. On top of all this, Otavio has submitted homework to me regularly.

“He is working hard, he's helping a needy person and he's continuing to learn, what more can you ask?"
