COOKING wartime meals and listening to 1940s music — these ideas are some of the ways resident are being encouraged to mark VE Day next week.
The 75th anniversary of the end of the Second World war is just around the corner and with lockdown still in place the usual events marking the occasion have been postponed locally and nationally.

But bosses from Bracknell Forest Council (BFC) and The Lexicon are hoping people can still commemorate the day safely at home.
At 3pm on Friday, May 8, the nation is being asked to remember through a moment of quiet contemplation or by displaying a #VEDay75stayathome party poster, which can be filled in at home.
Other suggestions to celebrate the day include creating bunting for your garden, cooking a menu using wartime recipes or listening to 1940s music.
More ideas and inspiration for how families can mark the occasion in other ways will be posted on BFC’s and The Lexicon’s Facebook pages in the coming days, too.

Cllr Paul Bettison, leader of Bracknell Forest Council said: “This is an opportunity to mark the 75th anniversary of VE Day, a poignant moment in history marking the end of the Second World War.
“We hope you and your families can join in from home to celebrate and commemorate this special day, while you stay home to save lives.”
