A CROWTHORNE resident has written a collection of poems which encapsulates the coronavirus situation.
Clare Bevan has released three heartwarming poems called 'Local Heroes'. 'A Rainbow Rhyme' and a 'Poem for the NHS' for people to read during this pandemic.
Have a read and tell us what you think!
1. Local Heroes

Let’s hear it for Heroes we’re proud to proclaim -
Our own Crowthorne Stars
To admire and to name,
Who seldom win medals or fortune or fame.
The people we trust to step up with a smile
Whenever we need them - to walk one more mile...
The Shop-Keepers racing to keep us all fed,
When shelves become empty
Of basics and bread;
While toilet rolls vanish and queues quickly spread.
The Carers and Neighbours who comfort the weak,
When loneliness bites - and the future seems bleak.
Our Postmen and Women who seldom complain,
While trudging through heatwave,
Or snowstorm, or rain -
To carry a message of Hope once again.
The Refuse Collectors on super-fast feet,
Who gather the rubbish - that clutters our street.
The Charity Workers, those brave volunteers
Who give up their time
For good causes. For years -
Without any need for embarrassing cheers.
The Teachers who patiently help you to find
The key to the treasures - locked up in your mind.
The Parents who struggle (in Lock-Down) to say:
“We’ll grab every moment
Of wonder today.”
Then fight their own battles with Tax Bills to pay.
SO
Let’s hear it for Heroes - Unsung, yet their worth
Is greater than gold.
They’re the Salt of the Earth.

2. A Poem for the NHS
They’re always here to help us when
Our lives have lurched askew -
Surgeons with their super-skills,
Who make our hopes come true;
People who push wheelchairs
Round the wards, the whole year through...
Those who love to welcome
Brand new babies to our world;
Those who watch in humming rooms
Where tiny souls are curled;
Those who comfort all who wait
While fate becomes unfurled...
Those with friendly faces
Who are there to meet and greet;
Those who heal the broken, then
Make sure they find their feet;
Those who feed the lonely souls
With kindness, warm and sweet...
Those who see, on clever screens,
The workings of the brain;
Those who know the perfect pill
To ease a bitter pain;
Those who bathe the sleepers
Who will never wake again...
Those who wage a constant war
On mites and mess and grime;
Those who care for victims
Of an accident, or crime;
Those who work, without complaint,
However late the time...
And those who simply listen
When the words are hard to say -
For ALL of them have vital tasks
And vital roles to play...
So now, let’s thank each one of them
Today.
And every day.

3. A Rainbow Rhyme, A ‘Thank You’ Poem for all the Children of Crowthorne who have cheered us up with their colourful Rainbows.
RED : Is the warmth of the Springtime at last.
ORANGE : Is Sunsets, so fiery and fast.
YELLOW : Is Daffodils, glowing like gold.
GREEN : Is the dazzle of Leaves, bright and bold.
BLUE : Is the shimmer of Skies when we wake.
INDIGO’S : Deeper than Fish in the lake.
VIOLET’S : Fragrant as Flowers in the wood... AND
RAINBOWS : Bring Hope for a Future that's GOOD.
With love from, Clare Bevan.
