PLANS for a new restaurant in Crowthorne have moved one step closer to reality.

This comes after pub and restaurant operators Hall and Woodhouse Ltd were given permission to sell alcohol at the site until past midnight.

Representatives for the chain, which owns 175 establishments across the UK, also attached new designs for the restaurant as part of their application, revealing the restaurant will be named ‘On the Ride’.

Bracknell Forest Council (BFC) approved Hall and Woodhouse’s application after agent Philip Day hit back at concerns raised by one resident about noise potentially coming from the site.

He said: “The planning consent is for a restaurant, it is not intended to be a pub and is most definitely not an old-style boozer or anything of that nature.

Bracknell News:

“In terms of noise, the relevant officers were consulted by environmental health and they didn’t raise any issues in regards to that.

“If there are problems, and there have been no problems with regards to any of the managed pubs in similar locations, then anybody at all can make an application to review the licence and run the risk of revocation of the licence.

“That is the last thing Hall and Woodhouse wants. The last thing they want to do is upset the neighbours, who they hope will be the foundation of a successful business.”

Hall and Woodhouse are aiming to purchase the site “later in 2020” but then would need to fit out the premises, meaning opening is not likely until summer 2021.

The new restaurant has planning permission, which will be added as part of the housing development at the former Transport Research Laboratory on Old Wokingham Road.

More than 1,000 homes will be built at the site with hundreds already added.

Bracknell News:

Mr Day said the eatery will “serve the needs” of residents and following his presentation, BFC gave Hall and Woodhouse permission to sell alcohol from 7am to midnight from Monday to Sunday.

Managers will also be able to sell late-night refreshments from 11 pm until 12.30 am Monday to Sunday.
