DEDICATED parents are helping their children adapt to school life with an exciting new project.

Like many students across the country, children at Cranbourne Primary School in Winkfield, Bracknell Forest have had to home school for the past three months.

Some parents have come up with an innovate to help children transition back to school life and help their mental well-being.

The project will see a new Sensory, Nurture room for the children at the school, which includes a relaxing area for them to feel calm during the day.

Sarah Stone, project organiser and parent, said: "It really does feel like a crucial time to be doing this, with the transition of children back to school after a long period in lockdown and a very different set up at school for them.

"All children deserve the very best start in life and by adding this sensory, relaxation area to our primary school, we feel it will support them and help with their general physical and mental well-being. It also provides parents the peace of mind to know that their children are receiving the best care whilst they are away from home.

"This sensory, nurture room will provide our children with a more calming environment which they need from time to time. This will be a quiet place where they can unwind and take a well-earned break."

The calming space aims to help children with special needs and those with increased levels of anxiety, who will benefit from having a 'time out' from an energetic environment at school.

Ms Stone who has also volunteered for the school in the past said the money will purchase necessary equipment and remodelling to make the room a sensory, nurture designated room.

Donations have poured in to help build the room, with The Prudential donating £1,500, Lynwood Retirement Village in Sunningdale donating £750 and several parents donating a total of £300.

The MCKS Charitable Foundation has also donated a massive £10,000, after former parent at the school Marie O'Brien, runs meditation classes in Bracknell through the organisation.

Sarah added: "Teachers and teaching assistants can spend quality time with children who struggle to learn and need more one to one attention, where they can focus on their reading and studies in a more relaxed environment. At the moment, they sit in a corridor which has a busy flow of people, so not a relaxing environment for learning.

"So, in the coming months, we can look forward to creating a fabulous relaxation space for the children."
