A town councillor has been given 'a slap on the wrist' after being found to have bullied a resident.

‘An informal resolution’ has been reached with the elected representative following a breach of conduct.

This came after the resident complained they were bullied and not treated with respect by the councillor.

The complaint, which was made in March, was one of seven made against borough, town and parish councillors from April 2019 to March 2020.

Of the seven, which were all anonymised, six were either not taken any further or not referred to the officer who deals with complaints.

All of the complaints were from residents, with five of the grievances referring to Bracknell Forest councillors.

Some of the complaints which did not go any further included allegations of:

  • Bullying
  • Bringing the council into disrepute
  • Compromising or acting in a way likely to compromise the impartiality of those working for or on behalf of the council
  • Discrimination
  • Disclosing confidential information
  • Abuse of position; and more…

The number of complaints received by Bracknell Forest Council (BFC) is down one from last year.

On average, the council receives around five complaints a year, based on data from the past decade.

A report revealing the number of complaints received last year will be discussed by the council’s governance and audit committee on Wednesday, June 24.
