WORK on a new youth hub in the town centre has officially got underway after months of preparation.
Major plans to convert the bottom floor of Braccan Walk Car Park into a new space for youngsters were submitted in February before the proposals were given the go-ahead in July.

Now the council has taken the next step in developing the youth centre by handing over the site to contractors Beard Construction for fitting.
Councillor Gareth Barnard, Bracknell Forest Council’s children, young people and learning chief, said: “We are delighted that construction work on the youth centre has begun.
“There was a slight delay due to the pandemic, but we’re now in a really good position to bring this project to life.
“It’s going to be a hub of opportunity for our younger residents and will provide a base for our outreach workers to run activities and provide help for vulnerable young people, including young carers and those with special educational needs.

“With its central location, we will be able to provide a safe, fun place for those who need it most.”
The youth hub will include an open-plan multi-purpose area, meeting rooms, three breakout spaces, and a kitchen.
Youngsters from across the borough and members of Bracknell Youth Council have already been involved in coming up with the designs for the centre, and will also have a say in the site’s final layout, colour scheme and furnishings.
Bethan Cooper, Bracknell Youth Council member, said: “It’s great that work is starting on Braccan Walk and there will be an accessible place for young people to spend their time.
“The centre will be essential for Youth Workers and will truly help so many in Bracknell Forest.”

The council expects building work on the youth centre to be complete by December but plans for the opening of the hub will depend on any coronavirus restrictions in place.
Financial documents published by Bracknell Forest Council last month indicate the authority has a budget of £765,000 to fund the building of the youth centre.
