READERS have criticised Bracknell MP James Sunderland (Conservative) for voting against the recent consideration to provide free school meals during the school holidays until Easter 2021.

Following a parliament vote on Wednesday, October 21, it was revealed that Mr Sunderland was among the 'no' voters, which won a majority nationally.

Ultimately, Labour's motion to extend free school meals over school holidays was voted against by 322 votes to 261 - a majority of 61.

Reacting to the Bracknell News' announcement of the news, reader Michelle Norris said: "There is no excuse or acceptable reason to condemn children to hunger in a civilised society."

"It's so disappointing. So many families will be struggling through this crisis and supporting kids so they can at least get something to eat is the least we can do as a society. It's the least we can do and we aren't doing it", said Paul Andrews.

While Krista Martin simply said: "A poor excuse."

Sheila Middleton commented: "Yes for free meals for those in need. Some poor families are really suffering and they are even working bet he has never gone hungry." Kevin Richard Winter echoed this view and said: "I wonder how much he has claimed for food ... let's vote him out." In responses from locals on Facebook, many seem disappointed by the decision.

Andy Page said: "Stunningly bad judgement..I guess keeping on the right side of Boris is a bigger priority for him. We will probably see a U turn by next weekend anyway."

Meanwhile Jane Armstrong added: "So whilst they all eat in the vastly subsidised House of Parliament restaurant, children are going to bed starving hungry."
