A new lockdown came into force in the UK telling people they must stay at home.

As coronavirus cases dramatically rise tighter restrictions have been put in place to curb infection rates.

But what impact do the rules have locally? These are some of the questions residents have been asking.

Education:

Primary schools, secondary schools and colleges across England will move to remote provision today.

The plans will be in place until at least February half term.

Children of key workers and vulnerable children can attend school and colleges.

Early years and nursery provisions will stay open

Can I go fishing?

Local anglers in the area have raised questions regarding visiting lakes to go fishing.

The national governing body representing all game, coarse and sea anglers in England, Angling Trust, said they will provide an update on advice 'as soon as possible'.

'Can I pick up an Argos order?'

Non-essential shops are allowed to offer click-and-collect services, but there are some rules that remain unclear.

Under the new laws, which will be introduced on Wednesday, you must have a 'reasonable excuse' to leave your home.

So collecting an order from a non-essential retails isn't listed as a 'reasonable excuse' but shops are allowed to offer click and collect services.

Pubs and restaurants

All food and drink (including alcohol until 11pm) can continue to be provided by delivery and click and collect/takeaway.

Can I visit the library?

Libraries can remain open to provide access to IT and digital services – for example for people who do not have it at home – and for click-and-collect services

If you break the rules

The police can take action against you if you meet in larger groups. This includes breaking up illegal gatherings and issuing fines (fixed penalty notices).

You can be given a Fixed Penalty Notice of £200 for the first offence, doubling for further offences up to a maximum of £6,400. If you hold, or are involved in holding, an illegal gathering of over 30 people, the police can issue fines of £10,000.
