Almost 1,000 people tested positive for Covid-19 in Wokingham in just seven days.
When the second national lockdown was lifted on December 2, Wokingham’s seven-day infection rate stood at 128.6 cases per 100,000. It has now reached 578.5.
New figures show 954 confirmed cases of the virus were recorded between December 24 and December 31 – that’s 233 more than the previous week.

Public Health England has broken down the data to show the number of confirmed cases recorded in local neighbourhoods, which are known as Middle Super Output Areas (MSOAs).
The figures show Shinfield recorded the highest number of confirmed cases, with 91, between December 24 and December 31.
There were 86 cases in Winnersh, 58 in Arborfield Garrison and 57 in Lower Earley South.
Crowthorne North also recorded 57 confirmed cases, while 56 people tested positive in Spencers Wood and Swallowfield and another 56 tested positive in Sonning and Woodley.

- Twyford East and Wargrave – 32
- Wokingham North and Hurst – 27
- Barkham and Woosehill – 22
So far, 5,232 people have tested positive for Covid-19 in Wokingham and 206 have died after contracting the virus.
Tier 4 restrictions were imposed on Wokingham on December 20 in a bid to curb the rapid spread of the virus, which is believed to have been caused by a new strain.
The government then imposed a third national lockdown on January 5.
