ALMOST £300 has been raised in less than 24 hours for an elderly woman whose electric scooter was stolen from outside her home in Bracknell.

The scooter was outside her house in Birch Hill, along with all of her shopping, when it was taken and set alight last night (January 29).

Her neighbours are now fundraising for a replacement, and said on a crowdfunding page "She is disabled and is heartbroken.

"Her scooter was her way of getting out and about.

"These scooters are not cheap and so we are going to try raise the funds together for a replacement.

"Please don't donate anything you can't afford, and if you can spare anything however big or small - thank you.

"Together let's try to put a smile back on this lady's face."

As of this morning (January 30), £2,875 has been raised, surpassing the initial target of £1,850.

Generous locals, shocked by the news which had circulated on social media, expressed their outrage.

One said: "Donated. There are no words for people that do these awful things.

"People are suffering enough at the moment. Unbelievable."

Another added: "Donated, I know how expensive these scooters are, and how much of a life line they are to people."

An organiser of the fundraiser said: "Thank you everyone for your donations and support, the lady is very emotional but wants me to let everyone know she's over the moon with everyone helping

"Can't express enough how grateful she is."
