IS bad parking a nightmare where you live?

For months on end pavement parking in Bracknell has been fiercely debated - with residents, groups and councillors outraged by the fact that motorists are still getting away with it, despite the dangers.

However, some claim the rules are too harsh and sometimes it might be safer to park on the cobbles.

In April, a national inquiry was launched in to putting a stop to drivers parking their wheels on the kerb.

They invited people to share their experiences and suggest solution as to parking on pavements could be tackled.

As it is, there is no national ban against either on-street parking or pavement parking except in the latter case in the capital.

Back in November, the News asked BFC if it was aware of this issue, and what it could do as the highways authority in order to tackle the problem.

Andrew Hunter, Director of Place, Planning and Regeneration, said at the time: “This is an issue we are aware of and the parking relates to a nearby housing development.

“We are in discussion with the management company of the development to explore opportunities to improve the situation, including an increase in parking capacity on the site.”

However, it is an offence to drive onto the pavement - with the intention to park or not.

Because this is a criminal offence, as opposed to the vast majority of civil parking offences, it is enforceable by the police, not councils.
