Fish and chips: These are the five best in Reading and Bracknell

Not that we need an excuse to tuck into some comfort food during lockdown, but by the end of the week we have certainly earned it.

Reading

1. Tasty Plaice, Park Lane

Tasty Plaice is rated 4.5 stars in Trip advisor, and has always been a popular choice of take away.

One reviewer recently said: "Always excellent quality of fish and portion sizes. Very pleasant and efficient staff. The premises are always clean too.

"Would highly recommend it."

2. Finn's Traditional Fish and Chips, Hatherley Road

Also rated a 4.5 star eatery on Trip Advisor, Finn's Traditional Fish and Chips is another much-loved option.

One fan said: "The fish was cooked to order, so it was super fresh and very tasty.

"I had cod, my partner had haddock, and both were very good indeed.

"Portions were extremely generous.

"If I had to fault the cod, I'd say that the batter could have been crispier.

"My partner loved the mushy peas, which were minted and not like standard mushy peas.

"If you like posh, crushed peas, these are great. But if you want standard chip shop mushy peas, luminous green and bearing little resemblance to the actual vegetable (as I do) you'll absolutely hate them!"

3. Sea Master Fish and Chips, Meadway Precinct, Tilehurst

5. The Fat Fish, Wargrave Road, Twyford

One said: "The best fish & chips in Twyford!

"We have been a few times since moving to Twyford and always treat ourselves to fish & chips on special occasions.

"The portion sizes are very generous but my cat doesn't mind :)

Although a kebab van, the Grill serves many different dishes, loved by locals.

One reviewer said: "The main man continues with the best service in Bracknell..... hot fresh tasty and generous portions.

"Always cooked exactly as you order..... no need to go elsewhere... superb."

2. Golden Fry, High Street, Crowthorne

The Golden Fry in Crowthorne is rated 4 stars on Trip Advisor.

One review said: "We ordered a fish supper for a family of five, haddock, chips, mushy peas with one side order of chicken nuggets.

"The food was freshly cooked while we waited, it was all fantastic quality and tasted really delicious.

"We have used this chip shop for over 20 years and it has been consistently good, we recommend highly."

3. Station Fish Bar, Station Road, Wokingham

One reviewer said: "Tried for first time, very impressed chips nice and fish was skinless which was a bonus, hadn't had fish n chips for ages but will definitely go again."

5. Churchill's Fish & Chips, Bracknell

Rated 3 stars, it has many mixed reviews on Trip Advisor.

one positive review said: "We have fish and chips about once a month from Churchill's.

"I'm bemused by all the recent poor reviews as we have found the click and collect service excellent and the food always to a high standard plus the staff are all lovely.

"We've lived here three years and in that time we had one poor bit of fish from this place which they exchanged straight away and were really apologetic about - things can go wrong with a takeaway but that's not a bad strike rate given all the other meals we've had from here!"
