‘THERE is no safe way to cross’ — that’s the message from a group of residents aiming to get road safety measures installed near Swinley Forest.
A petition has been set up calling for safer access to the popular site for ‘people and their dogs’.
A new set of traffic lights or a zebra crossing has been proposed by the petition’s organiser near the roundabout connecting New Forest Ride and Savernake Way.
The petition statement read: “We the undersigned petition the council to implement some kind of traffic control system so that people and their dogs can safely cross the road to access Swinley Forest.

“Now, more than ever, people are seeking outdoor spaces to exercise and Swinley Forest has become very popular due to its proximity to housing and the vast amount of space it offers to explore.
“For a lot of people, the easiest access is via the gate next to the roundabout and there is no safe way to cross.

“Drivers hardly touch the brakes when approaching and using the roundabout and visibility for pedestrians is poor.
“A set of traffic lights or zebra crossing would provide a much needed safe place to cross.”
So far, seven people have signed the petition, which can be viewed here.
The petition will close on May 31, 2021.
