The residency first opened in January 2020 and has demonstrated its good work so far in different ways, including staff learning to sing Happy Birthday in Russian for one of the residents, as well as organising a special Christmas celebration for him, as the Russian Orthodox faith celebrates Christmas on January 7.

Another story is of when the care home's staff encouraged a resident to talk about his experiences as a World War Two Spitfire pilot to residents, proudly showing his medals and logbook to the residents and staff.

Erika Smith, Home Manager at Bickerton House, said: “We are delighted to have made it to the finals in the ‘Best New Care Home’ category at the Care Home Awards.

“Being shortlisted is testament to the team’s hard work and innovative thinking to ensure every resident leads a happy and fulfilling life.

"The last year has certainly had its challenges, but the team have gone above and beyond to maintain as much normality as possible for residents, while keeping morale high with fun activities and events within the home.
