THE MAGIC of Hogwarts came to a classroom in Ascot with students writing their own acceptance letters to the school.

Charters School teacher Nicki Boorman loves Harry Potter so she led a lesson inspired by the books to help pupils with paragraphing and writing letters.

The English teacher said she jumped at the chance to teach Harry Potter to her students, leading a lesson on The Philosopher's Stone.

She wore a Gryffindor scarf and bought in a life-size cut out of Hagrid and Dobby the elf to bring the magic of Harry Potter to life.

Nicki said: "The Harry Potter series ignited my imagination from the moment I turned the first page, and my love for the stories has followed me into my adult life as well as my teaching.

"Forever known as the 'Harry Potter' teacher, I jumped at the chance of teaching 'The Philosopher's Stone' to 7Y3. With a focus on learning how to structure letters and paragraph properly, we explored Harry's Hogwarts letter and wrote our own acceptance letters to Charters School which made the lesson personal to all pupils.

"We listened to Stephen Fry read the book, listened to music from the film, and students had the chance to look at a special version of the first book which was kindly gifted to me by a Year 11 student last week as a leaving present.”

The students had a great time learning about the structure of paragraphs and it was wonderful to see them use some of the books that were donated to the English Department last Christmas by a parent.
