A Bracknell care home was delighted to help a local charity re-design its outdoor space ahead of its reopening to the public.

Team members from Bickerton House, Warfield Road, Bracknell and Mountbatten Grange, Windsor, joined the Age Concern team to help paint outdoor furniture, plant flowers and spruce up its day centre garden ahead of its reopening on Tuesday, June 1.

Due to the pandemic, the service, which offers free vital support to older people living in the community, has remained closed since March 2020.

Understanding how important the day centre is, especially for those living with dementia, the team at Bickerton House were keen to support the charity in re-opening its doors to local people.

Erika Smith, Home Manager at Bickerton House, said: “Here at Bickerton House, we understand just how important services like Age Concern Bracknell are to older people and their families living in the area.

“The community has shown us a tremendous amount of support over the last year, which is why we’re delighted to be able to give something back as our way of saying thank you.

"Our team members will also be volunteering at the day centre once it re-opens, to ensure the much-needed provision continues to be available to those living in the area.

“We look forward to unveiling the new garden with the Age Concern team when the day centre opens its doors again, and hearing what everyone thinks of its new look!”

The care home, which opened last year, provides full-time residential, nursing and specialist dementia care, and features a cinema, hair salon and activities room.

Andrew Eltham, CEO at Age Concern Bracknell, added: “We’re incredibly grateful for the support from Bickerton House and Mountbatten Grange, and for the time that the teams from both care homes have spent helping us to get our day centre and garden ready for reopening.

“As a charity, we rely on the kindness and generosity of local people to ensure we can continue to provide much-needed support for those living in our community, and so I’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone for their help over the past few months.

“We are incredibly excited to be able to reopen the doors to our much-loved day centre again, and look forward to welcoming everyone back on Tuesday 1 June.”
