Cases of coronavirus are on the rise in Berkshire as almost all areas have recorded more than 100 confirmed cases in just 24 hours.

The highest numbers of new cases were recorded in West Berkshire, where 232 cases of covid-19 were reported yesterday (Thursday, October 21).

Meanwhile, Bracknell Forest is the only area that has recorded less than 100 cases in Berkshire that day.

It comes amid speculation about a fourth lockdown to curb the number of cases. However, Prime Minister Boris Johnson said he was “dead set against” another lockdown last month.

The Government’s Covid-19 Response: Autumn and Winter Plan 2021 lays out measures that could be taken as the situation develops.

‘Plan A’ is effectively a continuation of the status quo, with the continued push for vaccinations, usage of the Test and Trace app, self-isolation when required and monitoring the global situation in an attempt to keep Britain safe.

‘Plan B’ involves the introduction of controversial vaccine passports to access certain places, and the re-introduction of mandatory mask requirements.

‘Plan C’ is currently being drafted, and does not form part of the Autumn and Winter Plan, but could include the re-introduction of the ‘Rule of Six’ social bubbles and possible restrictions on mixing during the Christmas period.

Current Government advice states that meeting outdoors is safer than meeting indoors, face masks should be worn indoors when mixing with people you do not know, and it is continuing its push for people to get vaccinated, with third ‘booster jabs’ being introduced in September.

If you have coronavirus symptoms, you should self-isolate for at least 10 days.

Sadly, four people have died locally after testing positive for coronavirus in the week from October 2 to October 8.

Two of those people lived in the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead, and the other two deaths were recorded in West Berkshire and Bracknell Forest.

A total of 1,874 people have died in Berkshire after testing positive for coronavirus since records began.
