Strong winds are set to brace Berkshire this week as Storm Barra moves towards England.

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for the whole of England on Tuesday after Storm Barra was named this afternoon.

The storm, which is gathering pace over the Atlantic Ocean, is expected to bring cold and strong winds of 50mph or more from 9am on Tuesday, lasting the whole day.

According to the Met Office, the public can expect potential delays to road, rail and air travel as a result of the storm.

Power cuts are possible in some areas, and high-sided vehicles like lorries and buses may face delays.

Snow and rain is expected in Scotland and northern England, but is not expected further south.

Frank Saunders, chief meteorologist at the Met Office said: “Strong winds arriving across the west through Tuesday morning will spread inland and reach eastern areas through the afternoon and early evening.

"Gusts of 45-50 mph are expected widely, with 60-70 mph in exposed coastal locations. The strongest winds will ease across inland areas into the overnight period.”
