A NUMBER of major roadworks are planned to take place across Berkshire in 2022.

There are several big projects starting or completing during the next year across the county.

Berkshire's highways will be busy - and there will be some disruption to people using the roads or living near by.

The projects going on include:

M4 smart motorways

Sections of the M4 motorway will be closed on various weekends of the year.

All temporary restrictions have now been removed and the upgrade of the M4 motorway between junctions 8/9 and 12 is finished.

Construction is continuing between junctions 8/9 (Maidenhead) and 3 (Cranford Parkway Interchange).

7 January – 10 January 2022 – full weekend closure between junctions 4b and 5

The M4 will be closed in both directions over the weekend of 7 January – 10 January 2022 between Junctions 4b (M25 interchange) and 5 (Langley). The closure will start after 8pm Friday 7 January and the motorway will reopen by 6am on Monday 10 January.

14 January – 17 January 2022 – full weekend closure between junctions 3 and 4b

The M4 will be closed in both directions over the weekend of 14 January – 17 January 2022 between Junctions 3 (Hayes) and 4b (M25 interchange). The closure will start after 8pm Friday 14 January and the motorway will reopen by 6am on Monday 17 January.

21 January – 24 January 2022 – full weekend closure between junctions 4b and 5

The M4 will be closed in both directions over the weekend of 21 January – 24 January 2022 between Junctions 4b (M25 interchange) and 5 (Langley). The closure will start after 8pm Friday 21 January and the motorway will reopen by 6am on Monday 24 January.

28 January – 31 January 2022 – full weekend closure between junctions 5 and 6

The M4 will be closed in both directions over the weekend of 28 January – 31 January 2022 between Junctions 5 (Langley) and 6 (Slough-Windsor). The closure will start after 8pm Friday 28 January and the motorway will reopen by 6am on Monday 31 January.

4 February – 7 February 2022 – full weekend closure between junctions 6 and 8/9

The M4 will be closed in both directions over the weekend of 4 February – 7 February 2022 between Junctions 6 (Slough-Windsor) and 8/9 (Maidenhead). The closure will start after 8pm Friday 4 February and the motorway will reopen by 6am on Monday 7 February.

Wokingham road closures

A 15 minute diversion route will be in place to avoid the roadworks on Barkham Road, Wokingham between February 11 and 14 and 26 and February 28.

Earle Crescent Closure

A road closure is in place near the Elms Field park development. This remains until August 29, 2022.

Biscoe Way, the road connecting from the corner of Earle Crescent (by the park) to Shute End (by the Council Civic offices), remains closed to allow David Wilson Homes to safely construct the final phase of homes along this section of road.

Cllr John Kaiser, executive member for housing and finance, said: "The new homes around Elms Field are progressing really well and it’s exciting to see the first residents getting ready to move in.

"We need to restrict Biscoe Way temporarily to allow the final phases of homes to be built safely over the coming year. However, once completed, we will be able to reopen the road again and allow people to benefit properly from being able to access the park and The Plaza car park from both Shute End and Wellington Road.”

Any vehicles wishing to access Elms Road, Waterford Way, Ellison Way or The Plaza will need to follow the diversion signs taking vehicles along Shute End, Station Road, Wellington Road and Earle Crescent.

Maidenhead closures

Closure of Blacknest Gate Road

The closure of Blacknest Gate Road will be in place to facilitate BT Openreach pole repairs.

Closure each day is between 8am and 4pm only and will start on March 7.
