Coronavirus cases are soaring across Berkshire with more than 10 areas recording infection rates above the national average - the highest on record.

Across the UK, the number of recorded cases increased by 179,756 over the period, to 14,015,065. The UK's infection rate stands at 1,791 per 100,000 people.

The Covid infection rate has also continued to grow, with Berkshire recording 2,111 new cases on January 6 - the latest data available.

The latest seven-day infection rate across Berkshire, based on the seven days up to January 1, has risen to 1,511.5 from 1,258.2 cases per 100,000 population on Sunday, December 26 – the highest figure at any stage of the pandemic.

The area reporting the highest Coronavirus rate in Berkshire for the seven days to January 1 is Owlsmoor & Broadmoor in Bracknell Forest, where the figure is 2,188.7

Two other areas in the borough have recorded high rates with Central Bracknell & Wildridings at 2,128.9 and Priestwood at 2,126.4.

The Royal Borough remains at a similar level with Clewer New Town reporting infection rates of 1,866.9 per 100,000.
